Interaction and Visualisation for Marine Navigation

This is a 21-month knowledge transfer partnership with United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO). The UKHO is the world-leading provider of maritime navigational charts, holding 60%-70% market shares through a global product portfolio. 90% of commercial marine vessels currently use paper charts, however the International Maritime Organisation has identified 2018 as a target by which digital charts will become the required primary navigation tool on all vessels. I am collaborating with the UKHO to investigate the next generation of digital navigation tools. This includes the design and prototyping of visualisation tools and interaction techniques for large-scale, complex, and safety critical navigational data.

This project is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership grant from the Technology Strategy Board.
